Video Marketing
Video marketing is one of the most
effective ways to build awareness and traffic for your site (not to
mention how much fun it is). Whether you have a large budget - or no
budget at all – video marketing is a GREAT way to build traffic!
With Video
Marketing, there are 2 Main Strategies!
The first strategy
isn't much different than advertising and Optimizing your videos so
people find them when they are searching for particular keywords.
Strategy #1 - Advertising on Youtube
Before we get into
making and submitting videos to advertise yourself on Youtube, there is
a quicker way to get your video in front of thousands of people and
that is by using Youtube video Promotion.
You can promote your
videos similar to Pay Per Click. You can bid a certain amount on
specific keywords. Currently, there aren't too many people using this
service so it's very inexpensive. However, the price will go up so
capitalize now.
The main difference
here is that when people click on your video (your ad), you cannot
redirect them to a website. You have to redirect them to your Channel
so set that up accordingly.
Each video-sharing site
let's you create "tags," which are words that describe your
video. These tags, along with the title and description of the
video, are the basis for how your video is located by end users on
video-sharing sites like You Tube. This is a simple concept, so
it's remarkable that so many content creators screw it up.
Good use of metadata
for video has recently become a requirement. Search engine
optimization and search engine marketing used to be the realm of text
only, but with search engines like Google and Ask adding video to their
search results ("Universal" and "3-D" search, respectively), optimizing
the metadata around your videos is increasingly important. This
means creating rich and relevant video titles, descriptions and tags.
There are only a few
specifics that you need to know about tags. First, max out the
tags, title and description for every site. The more metadata
describing your video, the more likely someone is to find your video.
It's surprising to see so many uploaders let so much opportunity go to
waste by adding few or non-descript tags. Second, your tags, and
particularly the category you choose, should be relevant to your
video. We have seen video creators go from little viewership to
becoming regularly featured producers simply through a better choice of
category.
If you are hosting a
video on your own site, the same rules apply. But in such a case,
be sure to create a relevant file name for your video. It is also
advisable to have just one video per page with a simple text title and
description place near the video itself. It's important to keep
in mind that most videos are watched in social networking sites, blogs
and content sites - not video sharing sites. This means that
while you may post your video to You Tube or Meta Cafe, many of the
views are a result of people embedding that video into another
site. The implication is that your video should be hosted on both
your website and the video sharing sites for maximum exposure.
What
Kind of Video?
Frankly, any
kind of video is better than no kind of video. However, any video a
user considers boring, dull, and uninteresting will not stimulate the
‘viral’ effect you’re looking for. And, being viral isn’t everything
either, but it’s free promotion for you.
So what is ‘viral’?
Viral is something that people immediately pass on to others just
because it’s a ‘must see’. It could be anything where someone says
“wow, I’ve got to share this with my friends.”
Viral videos
typically have to meet certain criteria for most people to considering
sharing. Think about it, you probably would never share something with
others unless it was:
- Really funny
- Really gross
- Really controversial
- Really sexy
- Really cool
Right? So what kind
of video do you make? One of the above if possible but that’s unlikely
for most people so what’s the next best thing? Something that relates
directly to your target market. When people go to You Tube, they search
for videos. So the videos you make should be related directly to the
keywords your market will type when they search. The most relevant of
course is your program name. But in addition to that, there are many
other smaller niches as well.
This means, your
video Title, keywords, and content is around your business, how to
improve businesses, how to generate leads, how to generate traffic,
etc. It’s a fact that a lot of the people who view videos don’t
actually create them. This is perfect because your video could simply
be about how use You Tube and short little videos to generate business
and you can teach them how to do the same thing. Pretty simple right?
The key is quality
and quantity. You want to create many videos as you can while ensuring
they are not duplicates.
You can create short little videos at your house, in your car, at the
mall, at the park, wherever. Your videos should be short (long videos
get boring), relevant, exciting, controversial, and display character.
Here are some video ideas:
- show why people should trust
you
- indicate what you have to offer
over and above other sponsors
- how you can train them
- how you can teach them
- how you can help them
- how you can support them
- the fact that this style of
marketing is free and bringing in a boatload of traffic
- how easy making these videos
are
- money proof
- short training videos
- short presentations
- just silly, funny videos that
show your contact information
- a recording of a powerpoint
slideshow
- a music video of a new hit song
with some pictures and your contact info
- Use someone else’s video with
permission and add your contact info
There are really and
endless number of ways you could go with these, but these are the most
common for your purposes.
The goal with all this is to get the videos ranked and popular. You
want people to subscribe to your videos and be your ‘friend’ (remember,
this is social network). By having friends, you can send broadcast
messages to them. Tell them about a new video, request they check out
your new website, whatever you want to communicate – but do not overuse
or people will remove you.
Submitting a
Video
OK. This is the
most important piece next to the video itself. We already talked about
metadata, so this is where you notify all of your friends you have
posted a new video, but you also optimize the video and your channel
for serious results in the search engines and within You Tube search.
Google and You Tube
have become best friends (Google owns You Tube). Google ranks quality
videos VERY high in their search engines. However, in order to optimize
the search, you have to use the appropriate keywords, title, and
summary (similar to a Press Release). The keywords are what You Tube or
Google will look for to match what the user typed in. Then, the title
and summary is what You Tube or Google are going to look at initially
to see if your video matches their search inquiry. But, You Tube takes
it further. You Tube will then start prioritizing results based on the
# of views your video already has, its ranking, etc.
To further optimize your videos, you should add them to your blog and
Squidoo lenses as well. Remember, everything ties together. The more
links you have on the net all linking to each other, the more traffic
you are going to get!
The bottom line is,
we’re playing a game and figuring out how to best be considered
‘important’ by Google and networking sites, as well as using our
posting and sites as traffic generations sources through the networks
as well. There are 3 key ways people will find your videos and your
sites:
- from ads posted directly by you
- by people searching for a
keyword you’ve targeted in Google/Yahoo/MSN,etc.
- by people searching for your
lense (Squidoo), video (You Tube), myspace page (MySpace) within the
social community
OK, back to the
videos.
Think about the
following four things when you start making plans to submit a video.
1. What category
you plan to submit your video to.
2. When (the time of day, day of the week, etc.) you are submitting the
video.
3. How you plan to capture traffic.
4. Is the video cut or watermarked?
Once you submit the
video, there is a secret weapon available for expanding the reach of
your video, and it’s something that many people do not know about. In
many cases, although you may already have a lot of subscribers to your
video syndications, many people you sent friend requests to may not
have actually subscribed to your channel yet. You can use the ‘Share
Video’ link found under each video you submit to target those people.
After you click on
this link, a new window opens where you can specify who to share the
video with via an email announcement of its posting.
Above all, do not
abuse this “all friends” mass send. Do not send this out 100 times. Do
not spam people with messages. I use this function once - at the time I
submit a video. It is systems put in place by You Tube to simplify the
process of notifying all your friends at once that you have uploaded a
video. That is how I use it. If done correctly and wisely, you can
start seeing movement within You Tube from this action.
